“The Word of God is our only standard and the Holy Spirit our only teacher.”
Geoge Muller
One of my favorite parts of a new year is rereading my journal from the previous year to remind myself of what the Holy Spirit taught me. “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (John 14:26). This practice strengthens my relationship with the Lord as I reflect on His faithfulness. Here are some of the things the Spirit taught me in 2024.
Repentance and being kind to yourself break the cycle of shame.
When you tap into who God created you to be, there’s grace and effortless ministry.
Stillness is an act of surrender, a way to keep your soul safe, and the pathway to attentiveness and awareness of God’s voice.
We cannot hear what Someone is saying unless we are quiet enough to listen.
Hurry is the enemy of presence. When we rush through life, we forgo being fully there with others and miss what God wants us to see.
Resistance is God’s invitation to lay down our way in exchange for His way. It’s His invitation to trust Him. If we give in to resistance, we will miss God’s best for our lives.
Surrendering to God’s will leads to an abundant life full of peace and joy, as one lives in congruence with and alignment with God’s desires.
Solitude, stillness, and slowing down bring great transformation and spiritual growth.
Thankfulness frees us from a victim mentality, protects our hearts, and increases joy.
God is always available to fulfill my need for connection, which lets me focus on others.
God cares more about who we are to become than what we are to do.
Genuine connection occurs when I focus more on vulnerability than protecting myself.
We all can hear God’s voice if we put away our distractions, pay attention to God’s presence, and attentively listen.
“The work of the Spirit is to impart life, to implant hope, to give liberty, to testify of Christ, to guide us into all truth, to teach us all things, to comfort the believer, and to convict the world of sin.”
Dwight L. Moody
