“One of the greatest benefits of our salvation has to be that of hearing God speak to us personally. There can be no intimate relationship with our heavenly Father without it.”
Andrew Wommack
One word from God changes everything! I experienced this when God emphatically told me to “mentor the masses,” which dramatically altered the trajectory and focus of my destiny. My “continual conversations” with God these past twenty-plus years since then have transformed me and my life in three main ways.
Listening to God’s voice as I go throughout my day and being constantly aware of His presence has turned what could have been a ho-hum existence into an abundant life full of adventure. Jesus promises His children in John 10:10 a life that is full and we experience that by hearing God’s voice. Rick Warren writes: “We often miss hearing God’s voice simply because we aren’t paying attention.” We do not want to miss the personalized burning bush God has for each of us. As we are attentive to our surroundings, we will see signs of God’s presence all around us.
Having a two-way conversation with God 24-7 has rid me of my loneliness and instilled peace and wellness in my soul. My back-and-forth chats with the Holy Spirit have caused my relationship with God to become more intimate. Hearing God’s voice regularly, makes me feel known (seen, soothed, safe, and secure) by God which increases my healthy attachment to Him. Exodus 33:11a says, “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” I intentionally seek out a closer friendship with God by listening to His voice.
God’s voice is like a global positioning system, speaking the direction we need to take each day. I receive daily guidance from God as I listen to His voice. John 10:27 says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” We hear to heed, and we listen to follow. God speaks divine direction into our lives so that we will do what He is asking us to do. Hearing the voice of God has magnified my obedience to God. Henry Blackaby writes: “The willingness to obey every word from God is critical to hearing God speak.” When we listen and obey God’s voice, He receives greater glory.
Hearing God’s voice has given me an exciting life full of adventure, a more intimate friendship with God, and specific guidance for my obedience which glorifies Him.
“There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful, than that of a continual conversation with God; those only can comprehend it who practice and experience it.”
Brother Lawrence
